“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” – John 3:8
I have so enjoyed thinking about the help and comfort that we are given when we are filled with the Holy Spirit!
The root troubler of my heart is being deceived into thinking that my Savior and my Father are distant and cold. If that is true, I best start making myself worthy and lovable to obtain their favor. If they are far off, I must work my way to them and somehow make payment for myself to please them, but it is never enough, and the condemnation troubles my weary heart.
But He is near! The Spirit has been sent to fill the children of God and remind them of all that Jesus has taught them (John 14:26). The Spirit is in us forever (John 14:16). By the Spirit, Jesus, too, is with us forever (John 14:18–19). Ultimately, the Helper brings the Father to dwell with us forever (John 14:23). The full, perfect love of the Triune God is brought to us by the Holy Spirit.
Troubles will still come into our lives, but a trouble does not need to trouble the heart. The peace of Jesus will keep the heart still in the love of the Father, even when the world rages around us.
Meditate on this Scripture. Test this truth.
What is the one thing in your life that is troubling you the most? What do you dwell on constantly that causes anxiety and stunts the fruit of the Spirit?
Now ask yourself, do you think Jesus and the Father are far off? Has not the cross of Christ brought you near to them? Has not the Spirit brought them to dwell in your heart? The love, the friendship, the Father—are they not in you and you in them?
Meditate on these Scriptures in John 14. Meditate on oneness with Jesus and the Father by the Spirit. Give yourself time and space for the Spirit to do the work. Cherish sweet submission to the Spirit; do not grieve Him. Wherever He leads, gladly keep in step with Him as He reveals Christ. The Father is pleased to give all the help we need! Jesus is asking great things for us. He will provide perfectly!
Spirit blow, we pray. In Jesus name, amen.
