John 19:17–42
I remember, years ago, a large denomination was removing songs and hymns that talked about blood. They felt these were antiquated and needed to be left behind, as they felt their culture had moved forward and was more sophisticated than those old, bloody songs.
Yet, as we saw in last Sunday’s study, the blood of Christ is the only provision God has made to pay sufficiently for our sins. This is abundantly clear from the Bible!
Yet, as we saw in last Sunday’s study, the blood of Christ is the only provision God has made to pay sufficiently for our sins. This is abundantly clear from the Bible!
"Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood..."
Romans 3:24–25
Romans 3:24–25
"In him we have redemption through his blood...."
Ephesians 1:7
Ephesians 1:7
"[W]e have now been justified by his blood...."
Romans 5:9
Romans 5:9
"[Y]ou who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ."
Ephesians 2:13
Ephesians 2:13
So, all of our salvation and assurance rest on this great sacrificial act of Jesus bleeding and dying for our sins. We continue to be assured and helped and blessed, then, as we sing “Nothing But the Blood” and “There Is Power in the Blood.” Our rest depends on the blood of Jesus, shed for us.
Be assured, my dear Christian, your sins were forgiven, once and for all, through His blood!
